Just got back from visiting the preserve for the first time. Learned a few things including that most of the park is closed to non-hunters during the migration (October to February) not because the hunters don’t want to be disturbed but also to not disturb the birds. It seems that all of California and a small parcel of Texas has literally changed the habits of the birds to feeding at night and sleeping during the day. I didn’t learn the specifics of why that has happened, but nevertheless find it interesting. Also learned again as if I didn’t already know that the light is awesome at sunrise. The show was essentially over by 8:00. It was very nice to get out after hiding from the heat during the summer, and the respite from the classes was nice too!
